Welcome to the first instalment of a new three part series where fans can relive some of the team's best moments from seasons gone by!
The series starts with a rewind to the first tour the rockets entered, the Fast on Wheels back in season 27. A certain young climber called Pajkos Elek led an ambitious team into the Danish hills. Elek had an exciting team on hand to support him, including Dutch climber Flip Werff and English sprinter Lincoln Prickett. The teams wildcard was the Colombian Normando Carriedo, who hoped to get in break aways and take on the sprinters.
In the prologue Fergal Snavely was the highest placed finisher in 49th with Carriedo back in 85th and Elek 90th. The next stage was a sprint finish with Carriedo finishing 22nd. A hillier stage 3 would end with Elek finishing in 28th and Carriedo in 96th after a frustrated break away attempt. The hilly king stage into Vejle proved to be the most fruitful stage for the young team, with Elek cracking the top 20 and battling to 17th place. The final two stages saw Elek battling to nudge himself up the GC. He would go onto finish 32nd overall. The result wasn't unreal but the rockets were on the map, and the youngsters were hungry for more. The glory years were starting...
Pajkos Elek would go on to finish 7th overall at the Monte Rosa just a few weeks later. The rockets themselves would also find further success at the Fast on Wheels, with a 9th place finish for Olaf Theunissen in edition 15. While Phineas Lindsey would claim a shock GC victory in edition 22!
